Retail Sales Associate for Band Instrument Store (Palatine)

retail Horn Stash Music Store in Palatine, IL is looking to fill a permanent position for a Music Retail Sales Associate.

We are a full-service band instrument store in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, offering new and used woodwind and brass instruments and accessories for sale, as well as repairs, rentals, lessons, special events and much, much more! We have been in business in Palatine for over 7 years, catering primarily to step-up and professional players who want the very best from their instrument and equipment.

This Retail Sales Associate position requires skills in the following areas:
• Music familiarity – specifically band instrument and equipment knowledge
• Retail sales – including instruments, cases, accessories
• Customer service – all aspects of customer interaction, including walk-ins, emails, phone calls, handling repair drop-off and pick-ups, and more
• Contracts – including rental contracts and payments, consignment agreements, and more
• Technology – including AIMsi and/or POS software, Word, Excel, Ebay, Constant Contact, and basic html

The ideal candidate would have a great sense of humor, be detail oriented, not be easily offended, be familiar with and/or trainable on basic retail and website software, be able to multitask and coordinate multiple projects to completion, and be supportive in a team atmosphere. Above all, the applicant must be self-directed, reliable, responsible, and punctual.

This retail position is specifically for band instruments, so proficiency in a brass or woodwind instrument is an absolute must. We are particularly looking for a reed player, but other instrument specialties will not necessarily be excluded if the applicant has the other qualifications we are looking for. We do not deal with guitars, pianos, or electronic instruments, so please do not apply if you are not accomplished in at least one wind instrument!

This position is part-time to full-time, requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week for part time, with a full-time option possible too. Some Saturday hours are mandatory (at least 2 Saturdays a month). Additionally, there will be extra hours required during busy times of year and special events, which sometimes occur on Sundays. The work environment is comfortable but can often times be high-paced and stressful.
